Informational Writing:
Reason? To objectively inform the audience of something. Examples include: comparing and contrasting, describing problems, explaining cause and effect.
One form of informational writing is "how to" writing, or instructional writing. Here are some activities to practice writing Instructions.

Journals and Letters:
Reason? Write to oneself and/or to specific audiences in less formal writing to share news, explore ideas, and record notes.

Persuasive Writing:
Reason? To convince the reader of the writer's argument or point of view, or to inspire the reader to do something.

Poetry Writing:
Reason? To create word pictures and play with rhyme that expresses vividly one's thoughts.

Story Writing:
Reason? To retell familiar stories, or write original personal stories (narratives) about real life events or made-up things.
